Deputy Senate President, Barau I. Jibrin, has welcomed a notable delegation of former local government chairmen and other political stakeholders who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.
The meeting, held at his Abuja residence, featured a courtesy visit led by Hon. Ahmad Muhammad Tudun Kaya, former Chairman of Karaye Local Government Area, who along with other former chairmen from Malam Ibrahim Shekarau’s camp in the PDP, pledged loyalty to the APC.
Barau, in his remarks, praised their enduring contributions to grassroots development and expressed optimism about the strength their experience brings to the party.
“Your decision to join our fold is a clear testament to your faith in our progressive vision for Kano and Nigeria at large,” he said.
In the same vein, the lawmaker received members of Inuwar Mawallafan Sha’iran Musulunci na Najeriya, an umbrella body of Islamic poets, under the leadership of Sidi Shariff Abba Hayyakallah and Malam Bashir Dan Musa. He acknowledged the critical role poets and cultural custodians play in promoting peace and unity.
Additionally, Barau welcomed a delegation of decampees from the NNPP, led by Yakubu Dan Gawon Jingau, who also officially defected to the APC. He described their move as “a reflection of growing public confidence in the APC’s vision, achievements, and unwavering dedication to national development.”
Barau reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, adding that the APC remains open to all Nigerians who wish to contribute to a greater and more united Nigeria.
