Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state has declared the total lockdown of Katagum, Giade, and Zaki Local Government Areas of the state for a period of 10 days.
The governor announced this while briefing newsmen on the increased number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the affected areas held at the Government House Bauchi.
The governor explained that the total lockdown became necessary due to the increased confirmed coronavirus cases in the affected areas.
According to him, the new 44 cases were as a result of community transmission of the virus from the people who are already infected with the disease.
” Our fellow citizens of Bauchi state, I am once again addressing you on the very serious development on the spread of coronavirus, recently during our stakeholder’s meeting we have agreed to continue with the partial lockdown, but I said that development would determine what we will do and take responsibility of leadership.
” Just yesterday, some cases were reported to us and they were shown that the cases are from Azare, Giade and other places, and we discovered that it was as a result of community transmission of the virus.
” We are therefore imposing a total lockdown of Azare town of Katagum, Giade and and Zaki because people of the areas are close to Kano and Hadeja of Jigawa state.
Governor Bala Mohammed said the total lockdown of the areas for the period of 10 days is to enable the state Task Force enhance its contact tracing and quaranting people infected with the virus.
The governor said under the total lockdown, the state government will come up with very robust and durable administrative framework to manage the situation in addition to conducting massive testing, spray within the affected areas.
He announced the securing of enough bed spaces in Federal Medical Centre Azare as well as about 150 bed spaces built by the Central Bank of Nigeria for the treatment of patients.
” We are state that are not afraid of testing our people, we have already requested Plateau state government to assist us in conducting our tests on time. We are very sorry for the inconveniences this lockdown may cause, but we are doing it as part of our responsibility for protecting the lives and property of the citizens.
Governor Bala Mohammed also directed the state deputy governor to with immediate effect move to Azare in order to achieve the set objectives, said contact tracing has been expanded to seven sub committees to ensure effective search of all the suspected cases.
The state deputy governor who is the Chairman of the State Task Force on COVID-19, said from Tuesday, the 12th of this month, the committee will begin imposing the lockdown and pledged to work assiduously to bring the situation under control.
