The Bauchi State Executive Council has approved the review of the 2020 budget due to the negative impact of the current COVID-19 virus to the state economy according to Lawal Muazu Bauchi Special Assistant ( New Media) to Governor Bala Mohammed statement
The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa announced this while addressing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting chaired by Governor Bala A. Mohammed.
Dr Aminu Gamawa said that the outbreak of coronovirus has affected the economy of not only Bauchi state, but the country and other countries at large.
” We presented two memos today at the Council Meeting, one is for the review of our 2020 budget and the other is for proposal for cutting down unnecessary expenditures.
” We have also suggested on the need for the state government to support investment in Agriculture by giving massive support to farmers to key into various agricultural initiatives.”
On the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Committee set up by Governor Bala Mohammed, the Budget and Economic Planning Commissioner who is the Chairman of the Committee, assured the determination of the committee to come up with a robust plan for the state.
” The decision to review our budget is to ensure that it reflects new economic realities of the state. We are currently working hard to eliminate wasteful spending and increase efficiency as well as to increase our IGR and promote agriculture.
The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ahmed Modiddo also highlighted some of the approval for his Ministry especially for the sell of old animals at Sumu Wildlife Park in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
