Boko Haram Claims Ngoshe Attack, Kills Soldiers and Threatens to Turn Borno Town into Caliphate

Boko Haram Claims Ngoshe Attack, Kills Soldiers and Threatens to Turn Borno Town into Caliphate Local Government Area of Borno State, declaring their intention to transform the town into an Islamic caliphate.

The attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday night shortly after residents broke their Ramadan fast. According to reports, the insurgents stormed the community, killing soldiers and civilians while abducting hundreds of residents.

Local sources revealed that among those killed were the Chief Imam of the community and several elders. In addition, numerous homes were destroyed during the assault, while the military base and some equipment were set ablaze.

In a video message circulated after the attack, a leader of the group, speaking in Hausa, claimed that the militants had successfully taken control of the town. He stated that the fighters were inside Ngoshe’s central mosque and intended to remain there.

The insurgent leader boasted that the group had defeated government troops during the attack and warned that they planned to rename the town “Daular Islam,” meaning an Islamic caliphate.

He further claimed that the militants would remain in the town and conduct Eid el-Fitr prayers at the central mosque after the end of Ramadan.

The statement also included threats to expand their operations beyond Ngoshe, with the group vowing to continue attacks across the region and extend their fight toward Maiduguri and even Abuja.

Residents who fled the area described the attack as devastating, with widespread destruction and fear spreading across the community.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing the extent of casualties or confirming the insurgents’ claims.

The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and other insurgent groups have continued to carry out attacks despite years of military operations aimed at weakening their presence.
