Three CNG-powered luxury buses belonging to Silver Transport Company were destroyed in an early-morning explosion at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna on Easter Sunday.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. while the buses were parked and preparing for interstate trips later in the day.
The Kaduna State Police Command clarified that the explosion was not caused by a bomb, contrary to earlier reports.
A manager of one of the logistics companies operating at the park, who spoke anonymously, said the explosion happened while the vehicles were stationary. He added that the buses were newly purchased and expressed relief that no one was inside them when the explosion occurred.
“These vehicles run on CNG. We are not yet experienced enough in handling them,” the manager said.
Security personnel, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other agencies, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the explosion.
Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan explained that preliminary investigations showed the explosion involved a gas-powered luxury bus belonging to Silver Luxury Travel, which reportedly exploded due to overfilling of its gas tank.
He added that the vehicle had been moved to a safe location and the area secured. No casualties or additional property damage were recorded, and normal activities have since resumed.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a full investigation into the incident, while the police bomb disposal unit has also been deployed to the scene.
Authorities also urged the public to verify information before sharing it, warning that spreading unverified reports can cause unnecessary panic.
