His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Kauran Bauchi has sought assistance from President Muhammadu Buhari to enable the state to manage and control coronavirus.
The governor was speaking when he featured on Channels’ Television live Programme yesterday.
Governor Bala Mohammed who was in the Programme to share his experiences while in isolation after testing positive for the coronavirus said Bauchi state deserved support because of its cases of the virus.
According to him, the state government needs intervention from the federal government due to its economic capacity to manage the disease.
” I am sorry we need a lot of assistance from Mr. President, Bauchi State should also be considered for assistance, we have cases of coronavirus. My humble self was infected before.
“By this, I think we deserve palliative, but maybe because of political reasons we are excluded. Bauchi is the epicenter of the Northeast, if we are given support, we can control the spread of the disease.”
He recalled that he was the first governor to visit the National Headquarters of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for the establishment of testing centers for Lassa fever and Yellow fever.
On the Juma’at congregational prayer he attended alongside other worshippers at the Bauchi Central Mosque, the governor said the social distancing was maintained as a way of encouraging residents and indigenes of the state to adhere to all health guidelines and protocols.
“I went there to show to my people the need to maintain social distancing, we can show to people that what we can afford in Bauchi is social distancing, we can’t afford the lockdown because of our capacity.
” We don’t have the economic capacity to lockdown our state, I expect the federal government to do that like what it did in Lagos, Osun, and FCT. We require a lot of palliative for our people.
” I am a governor who was tested positive for coronavirus after I got recovered from this virus, I requested my supporters not to bother coming for sympathizing so as to discourage the spread of the pandemic
On the efforts of the state government to curb the spread of the virus,
Governor Bala Mohammed said already the state Task Force has embarked on massive sensitization on the preventive measures against infection with the disease in addition to the closure of the state’s borders.
