Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase ( Deputy Speaker FGN and ECOWAS ): Redefining politics in Wase Federal Constituency and Beyond

By Abdulziz Adamu Bunu

Politics has been defined most popularly by Abraham Lincoln as a government for the people and by the people.

However, since the return of Democracy in Nigeria in 1999, and Wase, the practice of our politicians contested this definition. In fact, democracy has been redefined to mean government by the people, for the few. In explanation, democracy in our practice implied government elected by the people, often masses, but for the benefit of the few, often the elites. Masses were rallied to vote for the leaders during elections, only to abandon them serving the interest of the few elites.

Most especially representatives in Plateau state, both at state and federal government have not performed significant well in some years of democracy in Nigeria until the coming of Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, who served as a propeller, motivator, gauge for measuring successes and failures of elected and non-elected officials. Who also served as an example to always site and make reference.

The coming of Ahmed Idris Wase in 2007 redefined the meaning of Democracy, from our local definition of the government by all but for the few, to its original meaning as defined by Abraham Lincoln.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase redefinition of Democracy has not only impacted his Wase Federal Constituency where he held as a 4 terms Representative at the National Assembly, and later Became the DEPUTY SPEAKER impacted a change in the attitude of all politicians in Plateau state and North Central as whole.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase widely known gesture of securing a Federal Job appointment for the poor and unconnected Wase and Nigeria youth became the attitude of all, and a gauge for measuring success or otherwise of elected representatives.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase hasn’t stopped at that, he is currently pushing hard for the realization of the Federal University of Agriculture Wase, the Ongoing police college, Road from Jarmai-Bashar-Zurak- Linking to Karin Lamido Taraba state, federal Medical Center and Rehabilitation of the collapsed Wase Bridge urgent but if possible the complete road in General Respectively and others development to follow to mentioned but few.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase has been a success not only to Wase federal Constituency but plateau State as a Whole and North Central.

Our prayers remained with him and wished him the best of luck in all endeavors.
