The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to resume the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the first quarter of 2025. This decision follows the suspension of the CVR on July 31, 2022.
In a statement addressed to all Resident Electoral Commissioners, the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, outlined preparatory steps for the resumption. State offices have been requested to provide the status of essential materials, including:
- INEC Voter Enrollment Devices (IVED) and accessories,
- Colored and black/white heavy-duty printers, and
- CVR forms and materials.
INEC is considering commencing the exercise at the Local Government Area (LGA) level and subsequently devolving to the Registration Area (RA) level. Additionally, the Commission directed state offices to prepare details of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to facilitate the printing and display of a register for uncollected PVCs during the exercise.
State offices are expected to submit the required information to the Voter Registry Department via email by November 25, 2024.
This resumption signals INEC’s commitment to ensuring all eligible Nigerians can register to vote and participate in upcoming elections.
