The Kano State High Court, sitting as Court No. 22, has sentenced a young man, Shu’aibu Abdulkadir, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of killing a bride, Rumasa’u, at her home in Farawa, Kano State. Justice Farida Dan Baffa delivered the judgment after being satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution.
The incident occurred in 2025 when Shu’aibu visited the home of the deceased, Rumasa’u, in Farawa. He was accused of killing her after she informed him that she was pregnant with his child. She had also demanded N500,000 from him, threatening to expose the matter if he refused.
Justice Farida Dan Baffa delivered the judgment after being satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution lawyer, Barrister Bashiru Kabiru Aliyu. The court heard three witnesses called by the prosecution.
The defendant defended himself in court before the death sentence was passed. Despite his efforts to defend himself, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to death.
This judgment reinforces the strict stance of Nigerian courts on murder cases. The court has shown that it will not tolerate such crimes. The death sentence serves as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar offences.
