Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved the establishment of a Technical Committee to address the recurring issue of poor employment representation of Kano indigenes in Federal Government agencies, as well as private and voluntary institutions operating within the state.
According to Daily Nigeria, the development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano by Musa Tanko, Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The statement noted that the committee was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, at his office. During the inauguration, the SSG expressed concern over the continued denial of employment opportunities to Kano indigenes, despite the state being Nigeria’s most populous.
Mr Ibrahim reportedly described the level of unemployment among Kano youths as alarmingly high, adding that it is believed to be higher than in many other states of the federation. He explained that members of the committee were carefully selected based on their experience and strong public service backgrounds.
The committee is chaired by Dr Danyaro Yakasai, Special Adviser on Policy and Social Development, with Dr Ibrahim Muhammad, Special Adviser on Human Resources, serving as co-chairman.
As reported by Daily Nigeria, the committee will review employment practices in federal, private, and voluntary institutions operating in Kano State. It will also determine the number of Kano indigenes currently employed, engage relevant institutions on employment guidelines, and collaborate with the Federal Character Commission to ensure fairness and compliance with existing regulations.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Dr Yakasai thanked Governor Yusuf for the confidence placed in the team and assured that members would work diligently to justify the trust reposed in them. The committee is expected to submit its report within four weeks.
