The Kano State Government has announced plans to install toll gates on major highways leading into the Kano metropolis as part of efforts to strengthen security monitoring and improve the state’s socio-economic structure.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Adamu Abdullahi, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Housing Development.
According to the statement, the project is aimed at enhancing surveillance of vehicles entering the city and reinforcing security systems at key entry points.
Proposed toll gate locations include major access routes such as Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Kano Daura Road, and Hadejia Road all important links connecting the city to neighbouring states.
The Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, has formally handed over seven project sites to contractors for construction to begin.
He explained that installing toll gates on major entry routes is intended to strengthen security and support the state’s socio-economic framework. The facilities will serve as strategic control points to regulate and document vehicular movement, reflecting the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property through structured monitoring and improved infrastructure.
The commissioner also urged contractors to strictly follow approved project specifications and complete the work within the agreed timeline.
The handover ceremony was attended by Marwan Ahmed, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, and Nura Ma’aji, Commissioner for Public Procurement, alongside other senior government officials.
The event concluded with the signing of official handover documents between the ministry, contractors, and project consultants, marking the formal commencement of the project.
