The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has announced its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for April 29, bringing together stakeholders to review progress and promote the adoption of the .ng domain as Nigeria’s trusted digital identity.
The Association stated that the AGM will serve as a strategic platform to assess achievements, address adoption gaps, and define the next phase of Nigeria’s digital economy growth. At a time of rapid digital expansion, NiRA is positioning the .ng domain as a critical tool for ensuring local ownership, trust, and retention of economic value within the country. 
According to NiRA’s Chief Operating Officer, Oluwaseyi Onasanya, while adoption of the .ng domain has grown steadily, many Nigerians and businesses still rely heavily on foreign platforms without fully owning their digital presence. He warned that such dependence exposes users to risks related to data control, policy changes, and long-term value loss. 
NiRA President, Adesola Akinsanya, described the .ng domain as a national digital asset, emphasizing its role in strengthening Nigeria’s digital sovereignty and supporting local enterprises. He noted that increased adoption would help retain value within the country and enhance Nigeria’s global digital identity. 
The Association also highlighted milestones recorded over the past year, including growth in domain registrations, expanded registrar partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital workforce. 
NiRA called for stronger collaboration between government, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders to create enabling frameworks that encourage the use of local digital infrastructure and domain adoption across all sectors.
The 2026 AGM is expected to drive conversations around digital ownership and national internet development, with NiRA urging Nigerians to adopt the .ng domain as a foundation for a secure and globally competitive digital ecosystem.
