Nigerian Government Announces Reduction in Electricity Tariffs for Band A Customers

The Nigerian government has implemented a significant reduction in electricity tariff, specifically targeting Band A customers, who enjoy a daily supply of a minimum of 20 hours of electricity.

Announcements from major distribution companies across Nigeria confirmed the downward tariff review, which saw the electricity rate drop from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh, effective from Monday, May 6, 2024.

  • Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC): IKEDC notified its customers of the tariff adjustment, ensuring them of a reduced rate from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh for Band A feeders. The company guaranteed 20-24 hours of daily electricity supply.
  • Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC): IBEDC also commenced the implementation of the revised tariff rate, lowering it to N206.80/kWh for Band A customers, effective from May 4, 2024. Prepaid meter users will experience the new tariff upon vending in May, while postpaid customers will see it reflected in their bills at the end of May.
  • Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC): AEDC announced a reduction in electricity tariff for Band A customers via a tweet. The tariff decreased from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh, effective May 6, 2024. AEDC assured customers on Band A feeders of continued availability of electricity supply for 20-24 hours daily.

All distribution companies emphasized that the tariff adjustment only applies to Band A customers, with tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remaining unchanged.
