Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has announced the continuation of joint aerial operations with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) against Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters operating in the North-east region.
According to military authorities, the renewed air raids are part of ongoing efforts to weaken the terrorist group following the elimination of one of its senior commanders during a recent operation. The coordinated strikes reportedly targeted several hideouts and strategic locations linked to the insurgents.
The Defence Headquarters stated that the collaboration with AFRICOM has improved intelligence sharing and operational effectiveness in the fight against terrorism.
Security officials also assured residents of the region that the military remains committed to restoring peace and preventing further attacks by armed groups.
