Former presidential candidate and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has led a group of protesters to the National Assembly to demand the approval of real-time electronic transmission of election results.
Obi, who was joined by several supporters including prominent activist Aisha Yesufu, arrived at the entrance of the National Assembly complex as the demonstration gained momentum.
The protesters called on lawmakers to ensure that the ongoing review of the Electoral Amendment Bill includes provisions for the real-time electronic transmission of results directly from polling units, which they believe will enhance transparency and credibility in future elections.
Security agencies, mainly the Nigeria Police Force alongside the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and other paramilitary bodies, were deployed around the National Assembly. Patrol vans were stationed at strategic points while officers maintained order throughout the protest.
