The accusations, made by Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, during a compensation event for those impacted by the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, claimed that Obi was instigating the South East geopolitical zone against the sitting President.
Umahi stated, “When you condemn people, you bring judgement upon yourself. And that’s what he (Obi) has done. And I think he’s inciting some of the South East people that are not well informed. He is inciting them. And gets them into trouble. And he doesn’t go to fight for them. Wisdom is a defense. And I want our people to have wisdom because I am involved.”
In response, Obi termed the allegation a “baseless distraction” intended to tarnish his character. He asserted that his focus remains on fostering constructive dialogue and inclusivity rather than engaging in divisive politics. Refuting claims of incitement, Obi emphasized his commitment to unity and advancement, refusing to partake in reactionary divisive politics.
He stated, “I refuse to be reduced to the level of those who wallow in ethnic politics. Worse still, I have never and can never descend so low as to base my political aspirations on any sectional or ethnic interest.”
Obi reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to serving with integrity and advocating for the rights and well-being of all Nigerians. He rejected attempts to distort the narrative for political gain and insisted on prioritizing development initiatives that meet the needs of the people while ensuring the maximum frugality of national resources.
In conclusion, Obi reiterated his dedication to a prosperous future for all Nigerians and urged unity for the nation’s advancement.
