Bauchi is one of the states affected by the current global disease of Coronovirus tagged COVID-19 where Governor Bala Mohammed of the state and two others have already been tested positive of the virus.
Despite limited resources at the disposal of the state government, the governor set up a Task Force headed by his deputy, Senator Baba Tela to work out modalities of combating the spread of the disease in the state.
Soon after it’s set up, the committee swung into action by soliciting support from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control for the establishment of isolation centers in the state to manage patients of the deadly virus.
Already Bauchi state has set up four isolation centers for any emergency in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi, Bauchi State Specialist Hospital Bauchi, and Federal Medical Center Azare in Katagum Local Government and in Bayara General Hospital Bauchi.
The state government had earlier planned to lock down the state last Thursday for the period of 14 days as part of its efforts to ensure social distancing as well as reducing congestion in markets and other densely populated areas.
The state government has observed that no palliative measures have been introduced to cushion the effects of the lockdown as a crucial step in combating the pandemic is to do with managing the people, recanted the restriction of movement of people in the 14 days period of the lockdown.
The development to suspend the restriction of movement of the people followed consultation between the government, opinion leaders, statesmen, Ulamas and clergies, security forces, healthcare professionals and taking into cognizance of the fact that the majority of the people defend on going out every for their survival.
But under this 14 days of the closure of the state’s borders, citizens of the state have been advised to reciprocate the gesture by maintaining the one to one point meters spacing and avoid overcrowding by maintaining social distancing in mosques, churches, markets, wedding, and other public places.
However, citizens are also advised to show greater understanding and compliance to law enforcement agencies to help us manage this emergency on locking the state’s borders so that unsuspecting carriers of the virus do not infiltrate or spread.
The recantation of the suspension of movement restrictions of people is a clear indication that His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed (CON) is very much concerned about the well being of the citizens considering the difficulties they may face as a result of the lockdown.
The people’s governor deserved to be commended and applauded for this timely and welcome development.
What Governor Bala Mohammed requires from all and sundry are fervent prayers for his quick and speedy recovery from this illness to enable him to continue with the execution of his developmental projects.
