ABNUR Entertainment has officially acquired the rights to adapt the book Wa Zai Auri Jahila? by Balaraba Ramat Muhammad into a film, following a formal agreement signed in Kano on Sunday.
The rights transfer was completed during a brief ceremony attended by stakeholders in the Kannywood industry and members of the Kannywood Foundation. The event marked what participants described as a significant milestone for both the regional film sector and Hausa literary development.
The novel, first published in 1990, is widely recognized for its cultural and social impact, particularly in promoting girls’ education and highlighting societal challenges faced by women. Scholars have also classified the work as an important contribution to African feminist literature, with continued relevance in academic studies.
Industry observers noted that the adaptation of the book into a film is expected to broaden its reach, introducing its themes to a new generation of audiences while reinforcing the role of Kannywood in storytelling and cultural preservation.
The Kannywood Foundation congratulated the author on the achievement and expressed optimism that the production would deliver a strong and impactful cinematic interpretation of the novel.
The acquisition signals a strategic collaboration between literature and film in Northern Nigeria, with expectations that the project will strengthen both creative industries and expand the influence of Hausa storytelling.
