Governor Nasir Idris has terminated the state’s N150 million monthly support to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), citing poor electricity supply and lack of improvement.
The decision was announced during a meeting with KEDCO officials and electricity consumers in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday night.
Idris said the move followed persistent complaints from residents and businesses over inadequate power supply across the state.
He also directed the formation of a committee to investigate the root causes of the ongoing electricity challenges and propose solutions. The committee will include representatives from government agencies, labour unions, civil society groups, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders.
The governor noted that the state is exploring alternative power solutions to address the situation.
At the meeting, KEDCO Managing Director, Dr. Umar Hashidu, maintained that the company has been supplying electricity to Kebbi under different service bands and assured that efforts are being made to improve supply, while also citing the state’s large geographical size as a challenge.
