Plateau Relaxes Jos North Curfew After Security Improvement

The Plateau State Government has eased the curfew in Jos North, adjusting the restriction period to 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. following improvements in the security situation after weeks of violence.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said the decision was made after consultations with security agencies, noting that conditions had improved in the area and its surroundings.

The curfew was initially imposed after a deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba on March 29, where gunmen killed over 20 residents, sparking unrest and fear across the community.

Authorities had earlier introduced a 48-hour curfew, which was later extended as tensions persisted, with reports of protests, fear of reprisals, and disruptions to daily activities.

The crisis also affected institutions such as the University of Jos, which postponed exams due to safety concerns. President Bola Tinubu also visited the state, promising stronger security measures and justice for victims.

Despite the easing, the government urged residents to strictly comply with the new curfew hours and remain vigilant, emphasizing that security agencies will continue operations to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy.
