U.S. to End Waivers on Iranian and Russian Oil – Bessent

The United States has announced it will not renew waivers that previously allowed limited purchases of oil from Iran and Russia without facing sanctions.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made this known on Wednesday, stating that the exemptions, which covered oil already in transit before March 11, have now run their course.

The decision follows reports that Washington allowed a temporary waiver on Iranian oil shipments to expire this week, while a similar measure for Russian oil lapsed over the weekend.

The move signals a shift away from earlier efforts by the administration to ease global energy supply pressures during the conflict.

The Iranian waiver, introduced in March, had enabled about 140 million barrels of oil to reach global markets before its scheduled expiration on April 19.
