Students of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, turned the campus into a showcase of world cuisine on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. The MAAUN Food Festival, staged as part of Students’ Week 2026, brought together dishes from across Nigeria and beyond. It also gave students a platform to celebrate cultural diversity through food.
The Founder of MAAUN, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, and the President, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, commended the students for their active participation, creativity and impressive presentation of different cuisines. Both leaders praised the effort behind each stand and dish.
Throughout the day, students prepared and displayed a variety of local and international meals. Each presentation carried the story of a culture, a family recipe or a regional tradition. In turn, the festival turned sharing food into a lesson in tolerance and curiosity.
The event also strengthened unity and interaction within the university community. Students moved between stands, tasted unfamiliar dishes and asked questions about how each meal was made.
Furthermore, the festival reflected MAAUN’s commitment to promoting students’ talents and creativity. It also highlighted the university’s focus on cultural awareness and holistic development beyond the classroom.
According to the university, such activities complement academic work by building confidence and teamwork. Students who organised the stands practised planning, budgeting and presentation skills.
Ultimately, the MAAUN Food Festival showed how food can bring a diverse student body closer together. It celebrated difference rather than ignoring it, and it did so with energy and pride.
With Students’ Week 2026 still running, the university community now looks ahead to more activities that showcase student talent. MAAUN — promoting excellence, creativity and cultural unity.
