The Governing Council of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) has approved the appointment of Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi as the substantive Bursar of the University. The appointment was ratified at an emergency meeting of the Governing Council held on Tuesday, 21st July, 2026, following the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board. Ibrahim Abdullahi emerged as the most successful candidate in the selection exercise.
Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi emerged as the most successful candidate in the selection exercise, having scored the highest marks during the interview conducted by the Board for the position of Bursar. His appointment reflects the university’s commitment to merit, transparency, and due process in the selection of principal officers.
Before his appointment, Malam Ibrahim served as the Acting Bursar of the University, a position he held from 28th August, 2025, after previously serving as Deputy Bursar and overseeing the Bursary Department. His progression through the ranks reflects over a decade of dedicated service and professional excellence in the University’s financial administration.
A seasoned accounting professional, Malam Ibrahim holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Accounting from Sa’adu Zungur University, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Accounting from the National Open University of Nigeria, a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. He is also a Certified National Accountant (CNA), a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (FCAI), and a Certified Procurement Officer.
Since joining the University in 2012, he has served and headed across all units and divisions of the bursary department, ranging from Treasury, Final Accounts, Salary and Wages, Investment, Budget, and Expenditure Control. Malam Ibrahim rose through the ranks from Higher Executive Officer (Accounts), Senior Accountant, Principal Accountant, Chief Accountant, Deputy Bursar, Overseer of the Bursary Department, and Acting Bursar.
