Bauchi State Governor Launches 2025–2026 Dry Season Farming Programme

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has formally launched the 2025–2026 Dry Season Farming Programme, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to repositioning agriculture as the backbone of food security, job creation and economic prosperity in the state.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held in Sarma village Akuyam, Misau local government area, the Governor described the event as more than the commencement of a farming cycle, saying it represents the consolidation of deliberate reforms and bold investments under his administration’s agricultural transformation agenda.
Governor Mohammed highlighted key milestones achieved since 2019, including the revival and strengthening of the State Agricultural Development Programme (BASDP), restoration of extension services, and the activation of the Bauchi State Agricultural Supply Company (BASAC) to ensure steady supply of subsidized farm inputs.
He disclosed that the Bauchi Fertilizer Blending Plant (BAPCO), which had been dormant for years, was revived after clearing nearly 1 billion Naira in liabilities, restoring fertilizer production in the state.
He added that fertilizer has consistently been subsidized by up to 40 percent annually since 2019, especially during periods of economic hardship.
He then announced that the 2026 budget provides for the procurement of 300 additional tractors, 30 combined harvesters, refurbishment of existing equipment, and the establishment of a structured hiring system to ensure accessibility and affordability for smallholder farmers.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Iliyasu Aliyu Gital, said the launch reflects a structured and measurable approach to agricultural development under the Governor’s leadership.
He revealed that arrangements have been completed for the distribution of mini-tractors, water pumps, knapsack sprayers, fertilizers, improved rice and maize seeds, as well as herbicides to registered cooperative societies to ensure accountability and impact.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to diligent implementation and measurable results.
In a brief welcome address delivered on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, thanked Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for choosing the area to host the launch, describing it as a strong sign of his commitment to grassroots development and farmers’ welfare.
Similarly, the Emir of Jama’are and the host Emir, in their goodwill messages, commended the Governor’s investments in agriculture and rural development, assuring him of the traditional institution’s full support in mobilizing farmers for greater productivity.
