In a recent turn of events, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into the lavish display of Naira notes by popular socialite Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.
Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC have begun scrutinizing Bobrisky’s actions, spurred by a video showing him spraying and flaunting wads of new Naira notes at the premiere of a movie, “Ajakaju,” produced by Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao at Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos, on March 24, 2024.
This probe extends beyond a single incident, as it has come to light that Bobrisky has allegedly engaged in similar acts at various event centers and parties on multiple occasions. Acting on this information, the EFCC summoned the 31-year-old social media sensation for questioning.
Bobrisky willingly appeared at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on Wednesday morning, April 3, 2024, to provide his statements and cooperate with the investigation.
Upon the conclusion of the inquiry, Bobrisky is slated to face legal proceedings, as he will be charged in court for his alleged involvement in the “spraying” of Naira notes. This development underscores the EFCC’s commitment to upholding financial integrity and curbing the abuse of Nigeria’s currency.
Bobrisky’s case serves as a stark reminder of the need for individuals, regardless of their social status, to adhere to the laws governing the use and display of legal tender.
As the investigation unfolds, it sheds light on the intersection of social media influence and financial responsibility, prompting reflection on the societal impact of extravagant displays of wealth.
