Gas Tanker Explosion in Ogun Claims One Life, Leaves Two Injured, and Causes Property Damage
In a devastating incident that shook Ita-Osin, Abeokuta, Ogun State, one person lost their life and two others sustained injuries as a gas tanker exploded on Saturday.
The accident, attributed to suspected brake failure, resulted in the destruction of five vehicles and nearby properties.
According to eyewitnesses, the gas-laden tanker collided with a road culvert after experiencing brake failure, triggering a fierce blaze. The intense inferno engulfed surrounding vehicles and shops, causing extensive damage to the area.
Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the tragic event. She revealed that the deceased, suspected to be the motorboy of the gas-laden tanker, was trapped in the flames.
Additionally, two individuals sustained injuries in the accident.
Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property caused by the explosion. In a statement, he extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and sympathized with those affected by the incident. The governor assured residents that efforts were underway to manage the situation effectively.
Praising the swift response of emergency services and first responders, Governor Abiodun emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the explosion’s cause.
