Governing Council Approves Two Deputy Vice-Chancellors for University of Abuja

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, chaired by Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has approved the appointment of two new Deputy Vice-Chancellors for the institution.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of Information and University Relations. According to him, the institution is now officially known as Yakubu Gowon University.
He said Rosemary Udeozor was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), while Muhammad Ndagi was named Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). The appointments were ratified at the council’s 82nd extraordinary meeting held on 13 February.
According to the statement, both academics were returned unopposed following the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor, Hakeem Fawehinmi. Their appointments took effect from 13 February and will run for two years, in line with the university’s regulations.
In their acceptance remarks, both appointees pledged their support for the university’s strategic goals and promised to work closely with the Vice-Chancellor.
Udeozor, a Professor of Educational Administration and Planning in the Faculty of Education, holds BA Ed, MEd and PhD degrees from University of Nigeria Nsukka. She joined the university in 1995 and became a professor in 2009. She previously served as Director of the General Studies Unit and Deputy Director of the Centre for Distance Learning, and is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Education and the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Planning.
Ndagi, a Professor of Arabic Linguistics, has more than 45 years of teaching experience. He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Deputy Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies. He is also a Fellow of Arabic Studies in Nigeria and has contributed widely to academic research and language policy initiatives.
In a related development, the council approved the extension of Sambo Mohammed’s tenure as Acting Registrar. The decision was taken at the council meeting held on 5 February, and he will remain in office pending the appointment of a substantive registrar.
