Governor Bala Flags Off Wet Season Farming, Subsidised Fertiliser

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has flagged off the 2026 wet season farming with the launching of the sale of subsidised fertiliser and the disbursement of N500,000 starter packs and grants to 1,250 trained youths and women engaged in agriculture. The event took place at Bununu in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. The Governor described the programme as an investment in productivity, entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic prosperity.

Speaking at the event, Governor Bala Mohammed urged the beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely by establishing sustainable agribusinesses. He encouraged them to create employment opportunities and contribute to food security. He stressed that the programme is an investment rather than an act of charity.

The Governor directed the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure that only beneficiaries who successfully completed the training receive the grants. He also instructed the ministry to monitor the utilisation of the funds to guarantee measurable improvements in agricultural productivity. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding youth and women empowerment programmes in agriculture.

Governor Bala Mohammed appreciated the Federal Government, the Federal Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the World Bank, development partners, financial institutions, research organisations, the private sector, farmers’ associations, traditional and religious leaders, and security agencies for their continued support towards agricultural development and the maintenance of peace in Bauchi State.

Earlier, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Iliyasu Aliyu Gital, said Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration has recorded significant progress in the agricultural sector through sustained investments in farm inputs, mechanisation, irrigation, extension services, and youth empowerment programmes. He noted that these interventions have improved agricultural productivity, boosted food production, and created employment opportunities.

The Commissioner said the interventions have enhanced rural livelihoods, strengthened food security, and positioned Bauchi State as one of Nigeria’s emerging agricultural hubs. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that will further modernise agriculture and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
