Just In: Court Orders Murja Kunya, A Renowned Female Tik Toker, To Undergo Mental Evaluation
A Shari’a court in Kano has ordered that Murja Kunya, a popular Tiktoker, be taken to a government hospital for a mental evaluation
Kunya, who lives at Tishama Hotoro Quarters Kano, was arrested at her residence on February 12.
She was arraigned on a three-count charge of inciting public disturbance, belonging to a criminal gang and criminal intimidation.
Justice Nurah Yusuf of a Kano Shari’a Court has ordered that the controversial female TikToker, Murja Kunya, be subjected to a psychiatric evaluation due to concerns over her behaviour during court hearing
The judge ruled that the defendant would remain in the custody of the Kano state Hisbah Board which will be giving the court updates on her condition.
“The defendant’s previous appearance shows she is allegedly not in a sound state of mind due to suspected drug influence,” he ruled.
Justice Yusuf, however, expressed concern about Murja’s conduct during the court proceedings, suggesting that she might be under the influence of drugs or could be dealing with a mental health issue. Consequently, he directed her release from the correctional facility to the custody of the Hisbah Board.
“Hisbah board should be updating the court from time to time on her well-being for three months.”
Earlier, Aminu Abdullahi, prosecution counsel, told the court that members of the community where she lives complained that the defendant influenced their children into prostitution.
“You even said it in one of your videos which went viral that you are the leader of all the prostitutes in the city,” Abdullahi said
The lawyer added that the offences contravened sections 341, 275 and 227 of the Penal Code.
Murja, who is facing charges of indecency and immorality brought against her by the Kano State Hisbah Board, appeared before the court early Tuesday morning for the continuation of her trial.
The Hisbah Board was tasked with ensuring that Murja receives a thorough evaluation by a Psychiatrist to determine her mental state.
The court has, therefore, adjourned the trial until May 20, 2023, pending the medical report from the psychiatric evaluation.
