Police Order Probe into Dadiyata’s Alleged Killing

Ex-aide claims he witnessed police officer kill missing man; IGP directs monitoring unit to investigate

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered an immediate investigation into a fresh allegation. A senior police officer, CSP Hussaini Gimba, allegedly killed Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata. Dadiyata has been missing since August 2019. The directive followed a petition citing an eyewitness account by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa. He is a former Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara Governor Bello Matawalle.

In the petition before the IGP, Kamarawa explicitly claimed he witnessed the killing. He stated that CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba threatened to kill him. They said, “as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna.”

The Nigeria Police Force acknowledged the petition through a letter dated 8th May 2026. CP Lateef Adio Ahmed, the IGP’s Principal Staff Officer, signed the letter. The letter confirmed that the IGP directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Monitoring Unit to investigate the matter.

Social media exchanges attached to the petition show a Facebook user, Lawan Mohammed, directly accusing Hussaini Gimba of the killing. Muhammad Musa replied: “summa tallahi hussaini gimba ya kashe shi.” This translates to: “by Allah, Hussaini Gimba killed him.”

This development marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has baffled Nigerians for over six years. A direct eyewitness accusation provides potential evidence necessary for justice. Rights groups and the public now await a credible outcome from the Police Monitoring Unit. The question is whether the long-standing mystery surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance will finally be resolved.
