Shock Court Filing Reveals 67 Items ICPC Seized from El-Rufai’s Abuja Residence

Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed a detailed inventory of 67 items it says were recovered from the Abuja home of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, during a search operation last month.

The list was submitted as part of the commission’s counter affidavit before the Federal High Court in Abuja, in opposition to a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by Mr El-Rufai. In his suit, the former governor is asking the court to declare the search illegal, prevent the agency from using any recovered items as evidence in future proceedings, and award him N1 billion in damages for alleged rights violations.

However, the ICPC has urged the court to dismiss the suit, insisting that the search was lawfully conducted and witnessed by members of Mr El-Rufai’s family.

What the ICPC Says It Recovered

According to court documents, the recovered items span electronic devices, financial records, property documents, party correspondence, and business filings. The inventory also includes handwritten statements attributed to Mr El-Rufai.

Among the 67 items listed are:

  1. Nine flash drives, one memory card, and seven hard drives
  2. Two Apple MacBook Pro laptops and chargers
  3. A reMarkable tablet (two units)
  4. Multiple mobile phones, including Samsung, Nokia N95, BlackBerry, Google IDEOS, ZTE, and Toshiba devices
  5. Three bank tokens and a Samsung phone
  6. Shares certificate of Ecobank Nigeria PLC dated 3 October 2008
  7. Investor account details and stock records
  8. Business registration certificates, including Millennium and A Millennium G7
  9. KYC documents linked to Emirates Helida Home and Holiday Emirates Homes
  10. Loan approval documents (2015–2023) from the Kaduna State House of Assembly covering domestic and foreign loans
  11. Interim investigation reports referencing Mr El-Rufai and associates
  12. Property documents and deeds of assignment relating to plots in Abuja and Kaduna
  13. Valuation reports for properties in Maitama, Kaduna, and other locations
  14. ADC correspondence, including a 24 November 2025 letter from the National Welfare Secretary’s office
  15. Documents related to Saudi Africa Summit (November 2023) and visa coordination petitions
  16. Nigerian Pilgrims Platform and management solution (GILTMS) documents
  17. Ground rent updates and land file transfers
  18. Personal identification cards and CV documents
  19. Some items on the list appear repetitive, suggesting multiple copies or similar documents were seized.

Legal Battle Deepens

Mr El-Rufai, described in the filings as a stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been in ICPC custody since 19 February. His detention followed an earlier period of questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

His family has disputed aspects of the ICPC’s claims, including an alleged recovery of a phone-tapping device during the search an assertion the agency has included in its broader case narrative.

In a related development, Mr El-Rufai is also facing prosecution by the State Security Service (SSS) over allegations tied to claims that he tapped a phone call involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

What Happens Next?

With the case now before the Federal High Court, the judge will determine whether the ICPC’s search was lawful and whether the recovered materials can be relied upon in future proceedings.

As the legal fight unfolds, the inventory filed in court offers the clearest picture yet of the scope of materials seized from the former governor’s Asokoro residence a development that has intensified public and political scrutiny around the case.
