Troops Neutralise 135, Apprehend 185 Suspects in Nationwide Operations

The Nigerian military has achieved significant successes in its operations across the country, neutralizing 135 terrorists, apprehending 185 suspects, and rescuing 129 kidnapped hostages in the past week.

This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, during the Defence Headquarters’ weekly operational update on Saturday in Abuja.

Maj.-Gen. Buba revealed that terrorists in the North Central region have begun surrendering due to intensified military onslaughts and collaborative non-kinetic strategies with stakeholders.

“Notable terrorist leaders and combatants, including Yellow Jambros, Alhaji Mallam, Ardo Idi, Lawal Kwalba, Salkado, Yellow Ibrahim, Gana’e, and Babangida, have surrendered, with more expressing willingness to lay down their arms,” Buba said.

During the week, troops also arrested 61 individuals involved in oil theft and recovered 113 weapons, 2,415 rounds of ammunition, and various operational items. This included 72 AK-47 rifles, fabricated rifles, hand grenades, pump-action guns, and RPGs, among other items.

In the Niger Delta, 93 illegal crude oil ovens, 82 refining sites, 37 boats, and 127 drums were destroyed, while 909,800 liters of stolen crude oil and 71,060 liters of refined diesel were recovered.

Maj.-Gen. Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to sustaining its operational momentum and finding innovative solutions to address the nation’s security challenges.

“We remain in a winning position in the war,” he concluded.
