Uba Sani Distributes Livestock Support to 5,000 Farmers in Kaduna

Governor Uba Sani has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Kaduna State into the agricultural and livestock hub of Northern Nigeria.

The governor made this known during the launch of a livestock intervention programme aimed at supporting 5,000 farmer cooperatives across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Hadiza Balarabe, Sani said the initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to position Kaduna as a centre for agricultural innovation, productivity, and inclusive growth.

As part of the intervention, the government distributed 500 solar powered freezers, 300 feed milling machines, 3,000 bags of poultry feed, and 200,000 day old chicks to organised farmer cooperatives. Each cooperative consists of ten members, meaning about 5,000 farmers will directly benefit from the programme.

Governor Sani said the support is designed to increase productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve income opportunities, particularly for women and young people who play a major role in the livestock value chain in Kaduna State.

He added that the state has already recorded major achievements in livestock development, including the rehabilitation of abattoirs, construction of veterinary clinics and boreholes in pastoral communities, and the deployment of mobile veterinary teams to improve animal healthcare.

According to him, the state has also carried out vaccination campaigns protecting more than 850,000 cattle, 250,000 sheep and goats, 250,000 poultry, and 5,000 dogs from transboundary animal diseases.

The governor further disclosed that the government has distributed residue crushers and fodder choppers to help farmers convert crop waste into livestock feed, while pasture demonstration fields and feed supplements have been provided to improve livestock nutrition.

In pastoral settlements, solar powered boreholes and livestock drinking troughs have been installed to ensure steady water supply and reduce seasonal migration.

Governor Sani noted that these livestock programmes complement broader agricultural initiatives of the administration, including the Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona) programme, which has supported about 69,000 crop farmers with seeds, fertiliser, and mechanisation tools.

He also highlighted the Dry and Wet Season Agricultural Empowerment Programmes, which provide solar powered irrigation pumps and farming inputs to enable year round farming for nearly one million small holder farmers.

The governor added that Kaduna State is also investing in large scale agricultural processing through the Special Agro Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) and the Agricultural Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC), which aim to ensure that livestock and dairy products meet international standards and gain access to premium markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Governor Sani described farmers as the backbone of the state’s rural economy and urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the equipment to improve productivity and expand their businesses.
