Wase Security Talks: Chairman Meets Defence Minister

The Executive Chairman of Wase Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Hamisu Mohammed Anani, held a strategic security discussion with the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), on the security challenges facing Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. The council announced the engagement in a statement signed by the chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Musab Imamuddeen, on Thursday, 22 October 2026. The statement did not disclose the date or venue of the meeting.

According to the statement, the talks centred on the security situation in Wase and the need to strengthen ongoing efforts to protect lives and property across the area. Both sides reportedly focused on practical steps rather than broad policy.

Wase has long sat on a flashpoint in Plateau’s security map. Consequently, the chairman used the engagement to press for closer coordination between the council and federal security structures.

Hon. Anani reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with relevant security authorities and the Federal Government. He said the goal was to address the challenges and promote lasting peace in Wase LGA.

Furthermore, the statement presented the meeting as part of a wider push to keep the council aligned with federal security planning.

The release named no specific operations, funding commitments or timelines. It also offered no details on troop deployments or new measures agreed at the meeting. Therefore, residents will have to wait for further announcements to learn what changed.

Ultimately, the value of the discussion will rest on what follows it. Wase residents want visible protection, and council leaders want a stronger federal ear. The engagement opens that channel. Whether it narrows the security gap in Wase now depends on delivery rather than dialogue.
