2027 Elections: Mutfwang Says Plateau Will Have No Opposition

Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has expressed confidence that his party will dominate politics in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that there may be no opposition left in the state by that time.

The governor made the statement on Tuesday in Jos following the emergence of Rufus Bature as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State.

Bature and members of the state executive committee were elected through a consensus arrangement.

Speaking after the exercise, Mutfwang expressed optimism that the party would remain the dominant political force in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

“By the grace of God, in 2027, we will only be contesting among ourselves. There will be no opposition in Plateau,” the governor stated.

He added that residents of Plateau State continue to show confidence in the party’s leadership and programmes.

According to him, the opportunity given to the party’s leadership will be used to improve the welfare of the people, stressing that the time has come to unite the state.

Mutfwang also emphasized the need for unity, tolerance, and reconciliation among party members, describing the APC as a family whose internal disagreements should not weaken its strength or shared goals.

While acknowledging that some issues within the party still need attention, the governor assured members that such concerns would be resolved amicably in the interest of the party.

He congratulated Bature and the newly elected state executive committee members and urged them to remain loyal to the party, the President, and the people of Plateau State.

The governor also announced a one-month statewide membership drive, encouraging each registered party member to recruit at least ten new members.

“As ambassadors of the party, I urge you to reach every part of the state and persuade more people to join us. A bigger and stronger party will better serve the interests of Plateau State,” he said.

He further encouraged members to promote the party’s e-membership registration initiative, noting that electoral success depends on strong party structures and active grassroots mobilisation.

In his acceptance speech, Bature thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence placed in him and his team.

He described his re-election as both an honour and a responsibility and pledged to work diligently to meet the expectations of party members across the state.

Bature also highlighted achievements recorded during his previous tenure, including the election of three senators, 23 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, 17 local government chairmen, and 325 councillors under the APC platform.

He assured party members that the leadership would continue to provide oversight and support to ensure accountability and sustained electoral success.
