In a recent operation conducted by the Kano State Police Command, eight suspected mobile phone snatchers were arrested, and nine mobile phones, along with other items, were recovered. This development follows a series of incidents where unsuspecting citizens fell victim to theft
During routine crime prevention patrol on April 23rd, 2024, along Airport Road in Kano, police officers intercepted and apprehended four suspects riding on a tricycle. Upon searching them, seven mobile phones and a handcuff were found in their possession. The suspects admitted to using the tricycle to snatch people’s mobile phones.
Similarly, on April 19th, 2024, a report was received from Aminu Sulaiman stating that his mobile phone was stolen from his motor vehicle at Matrix Filling Station along BUK Road, Kano. Detectives swiftly acted on the report and arrested three suspects with the assistance of technical support. Subsequently, the stolen mobile phone and their operational tricycle were recovered.
In another incident on April 23rd, 2024, at approximately 9:00 am, a distress call was received reporting an attack by unknown hoodlums on board a tricycle who robbed an innocent passenger of his mobile phone. A team of surveillance patrol responded promptly, leading to the arrest of one suspect after a hot chase. The stolen mobile phone and a sharp knife were recovered from him.
The suspects are currently undergoing investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Command and will be charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the commitment of the Police Command to providing a safe and secure environment for all residents of Kano State.
Finally, the public was urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or through the Kano State Police Command’s emergency contact numbers. Additionally, citizens were encouraged to utilize the NPF Rescue Me Application or engage with the Kano State Police Command on various social media platforms for assistance.
