Boko Haram Overruns Military Base in Borno Commanding Officer Killed

Boko Haram terrorists have stormed a military base in Kukawa, killing the commanding officer and several other soldiers in the early hours of Monday.

According to sources from the town, the insurgents attacked the camp at around 12:30 a.m., advancing from multiple directions. Troops stationed at the base were reportedly dislodged, with terrorists setting military vehicles ablaze and seizing ammunition.

“I cannot provide full casualty figures yet, but it is very sad that we lost the Commanding Officer in this attack,” a security official said.

Last month, the same base had withstood a similar assault, with troops repelling the attackers and inflicting heavy losses on Boko Haram fighters. The commanding officer at the time was widely celebrated for his bravery, earning accolades from the local community and praise on social media.

Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, who represents Kukawa in the Borno State House of Assembly, expressed sorrow over the latest attack, calling it a tragic development for the town.

This latest assault comes shortly after Boko Haram targeted a military base and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe, leaving both soldiers and civilians dead.

Authorities have yet to release official casualty numbers or details of ongoing counteroperations in the region.
