ACF Raises Alarm Over Escalating Insecurity in Northern Nigeria

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed renewed concern over worsening insecurity and deepening humanitarian challenges across Northern Nigeria, warning that terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping are spreading and forcing more communities from their homes.

Speaking on Wednesday at the forum’s 79th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kaduna, ACF Chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN), said the region has faced “grave difficulties” since the forum last met in August 2025.

He noted that incidents of terrorism, armed banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping have intensified in several areas, including Kwara, Southern Kaduna, Katsina, Benue, and other locations, leaving widespread devastation in their wake.

According to him, the violence has displaced families and entire communities, resulting in overcrowded camps and informal settlements with limited access to essential services. He warned that these conditions are increasing the risks of malnutrition and mortality among affected populations.

Osuman also highlighted the broader social and economic impact of the crisis, stating that persistent attacks and fear have disrupted education, leading to school closures in many affected areas, while rural livelihoods and local economies continue to suffer severe strain.

He called on ACF state chapters to take a more active role in addressing the situation, stressing that the forum must go beyond symbolic engagement and operate with sincerity, sacrifice, and decisive action.

The ACF, he added, must work constructively with both federal and state governments to promote peace, stability, and the recovery and rehabilitation of affected communities.
