BAHA Plenary 21st July, 2020

Summary of proceedings during the plenary of Bauchi State House of Assembly presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y Suleiman (Dangaladiman Ningi) today, 21st July, 2020:

1. Votes and proceedings of Wednesday 15th July 2020 was adopted by the Honourable House as moved and seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Baballe Abubakar Dambam (Dambam/Dagauda/Jalam Constituency) and Minority Leader Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo (Chiroma Constituency) and voted by the members.

2. Under matters of urgent public importance, Hon. Dan’umma Bello (Giade Constituency) draw the attention of the House on the soil erosion affecting some areas of Giade Local Government and the need to call on the attention of the State Government to come to the rescue of his Constituency.

According to him the previous administration has awarded a contract of a road construction from Giade to Jugudu to Kurba but due to the shape of the economy cause by covid-19 the work couldn’t proceed though the present administration pledged to continue. He said so far erosion is washing away the parts of the road constructed in Jugudu Town.

Hon. Dan’umma Bello added that currently erosion threatening Azare-Misau road at shinkani town, Sabon Sara, Isawa, Kurba, Zirami roads among others.

He therefore call on the House to call on the State
government to set up a committee to find out what is happening and take immediate action.

The Member hoped the government being a Democratic government will do the needful so that the problem will not grow to a big one.

Responding to the motion, Speaker Abubakar Y Suleiman said the matter is a serious one and needs need urgent attention based on the fact of the large number of people are affected.

In his contribution, Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo (Chiroma Constituency) said he is a witness to the erosion problem in Giade Constituency.

He therefore opined that the  House Committee on Environment should be directed to visit the areas and report back to the House for further actions

Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu (Kirfi Constituency) corroborated, he said that the matter needs urgent attention therefore second the suggestion moved by Hon Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo.

However, Hon. Mukhtar A Suleiman (Katagum Constituency) observed that since the matter is urgent, it should not be refer to any committee because it will lead to some delay and the problem may linger. He therefore suggested that the matter should be directly forwarded to the Executive for immediate action.

But Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada Bogoro Constituency the stands with the suggestion that the matter be referred to the House Committee on Environment which he is chairman since it’s is their job.

According to Nakwada the Committee should be directed to do the work within shortest time and they will do their work and report back immediately.

The Honourable House finally resolved to refer the matter to the House Committee on Environment with a directive to to accelerate action and report back to the House on Tuesday 28th July, 2020.

3. The Honourable House adjourned to Tuesday 28th July, 2020 as moved and seconded by Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Baballe Abubakar Dambam (Dambam/Dagauda/Jalam Constituency) and Minority leader Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo Chiroma Constituency.
