Federal University of Kashere Appoints New Vice-Chancellor

Professor Muhammad Inuwa Ja’afaru has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Professor Williams O. Aderounmu, following a rigorous selection process conducted at the council chamber.

Professor Aderounmu disclosed that Professor Ja’afaru emerged winner among 20 candidates, securing the highest score in the selection exercise to become the institution’s fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor. He is set to succeed Professor Umaru A. Pate, whose tenure ends on February 11, 2026.

According to the Pro-Chancellor, the appointment was based strictly on merit, reflecting Professor Ja’afaru’s outstanding performance throughout the selection process.

Professor Ja’afaru is a Professor of Environmental Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, Adamawa State.

He previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at MAU, where he oversaw key administrative operations of the university. In June 2024, following the expiration of the tenure of the then Vice-Chancellor, he was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor and led the institution until July 2024, when he formally handed over to Professor Ibrahim Umar, the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

During his tenure in acting capacity, Professor Ja’afaru was widely acknowledged within the university community for his administrative competence and effective leadership during the transition period.
