The assailants targeted mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo community, resulting in loss of lives and severe injuries.
According to sources, the attackers caught the villagers off guard, unleashing gunfire on the mourners. Among those killed were Okeh Simon Ugwu Oruku, Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea. A haunting video circulating online depicted the aftermath of the attack a deserted and blood-stained community, with scattered tables and chairs serving as grim reminders of the tragedy.
This is not the first time Nimbo has faced such violence. In 2016, the community witnessed a similar onslaught that claimed numerous lives, sparking nationwide outrage.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of the latest attack, there has been no official response from the Enugu State Police Command. Despite inquiries from a news paper handle, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, is yet to provide any information regarding the incident.
As residents reel from this horrific ordeal, calls for justice and improved security measures grow louder, emphasizing the urgent need to protect vulnerable communities from such senseless acts of violence.
