Jasawa Community Honours Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, Others for Selfless Contributions

Jos, May 11, 2025 – In a heartwarming display of gratitude and recognition, the Jasawa Community in Jos has honoured five distinguished personalities during its annual merit award ceremony held on Sunday, May 11, 2025. The event, organised by the Jasawa Community Development Association, was a celebration of individuals who have stood by the community through its triumphs and challenges.

Among the recipients was Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, CON, the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, whose unwavering support and impactful contributions earned him accolades far beyond his immediate constituency in Plateau South.

Other honourees included Professor Sheikh Khalid Aliyu, Alhaji Murtala Ahmadu Laushi, Alhaji Hassan Sallau Natija, and Alhaji Salis Umar Danzaki—all recognized for their excellence, dedication, and selfless service to humanity and the Hausa-Fulani-dominated Jasawa community.

The Jasawa community, historically known for its resilience and contributions to Plateau State through trade, agriculture, and grassroots empowerment, used this year’s awards to appreciate leaders who have genuinely supported its development.

In his tribute, a local commentator, Garba Sarki, commended Hon. Wase’s far-reaching impact, stating, “While some politicians limit their efforts to their constituencies for political gain, Hon. Wase’s projects and legislative work have benefitted communities far beyond Wase LGA.”

Indeed, during his tenure as Deputy Speaker of the 9th Assembly, Wase sponsored bills to expand healthcare access across Nigeria, including legislation for the establishment of Orthopaedic Hospitals in previously underserved geopolitical zones—resulting in new hospitals in Jos, Jalingo, and Edo.

His legislative legacy also includes securing federal projects such as rural roads, water supply systems, electrification schemes, schools, and empowerment programs. Moreover, as Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, Wase worked to address regional disparities in employment and infrastructure.

The Jasawa community’s decision to honour him, alongside other respected leaders, affirms the inclusive and far-reaching nature of his leadership.

The 2025 Jasawa Merit Award is not just a ceremonial event but a reflection of the community’s values—recognising sincerity, compassion, and a commitment to uplifting lives beyond ethnic or political boundaries.
