Kano Govt Clarifies Directive, Says Administration Not Shut Down

The Kano State Government has refuted reports suggesting that a recent directive issued by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has crippled public administration in the state.

In a statement released on Friday, the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Tanko Muhammad, described the claims as misleading, explaining that the directive was a temporary and precautionary measure in line with financial regulations and due process.

According to the statement, the directive which temporarily stopped the forwarding of files to the governor’s office was issued at the end of December when the 2024 budget had expired and the 2025 Appropriation Bill was still under consideration by the House of Assembly.

The government noted that the step was taken to prevent unauthorized spending and to ensure strict compliance with public finance rules, stressing that no new financial commitments can be approved without a valid appropriation law.

It further assured the public that essential services, including security, healthcare, education, and sanitation, have continued uninterrupted, reaffirming the government’s commitment to effective governance.

The state government emphasized that the directive was a lawful measure aimed at promoting fiscal discipline and accountability, adding that further guidance would be provided after the conclusion of ongoing administrative reviews.
