NEMA Receives 708 Nigerian Returnees from Niger Republic

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received a total of 708 Nigerian returnees from Niger Republic at the Jibia border.
The returnees, who arrived on March 23, 2026, were transported from Niamey in 12 luxury buses under the escort of officials from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
According to officials, the group comprised 292 males and 416 females, totaling 708 individuals. They hailed from several states across Nigeria, including Kano State, Jigawa State, Katsina State, Benue State, Borno State, Yobe State, Zamfara State, Kaduna State, Kogi State, and Niger State.
The reception exercise was coordinated by NEMA with support from key stakeholders, including the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and various State Emergency Management Agencies.
Upon arrival, the returnees were profiled and documented in line with standard procedures. NEMA and its partners also provided immediate humanitarian assistance to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
Relief materials such as mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets were distributed, while vulnerable individuals received dignity kits to support their immediate needs.
