Nigerian Army Honors Officers for Rejecting N1.5m Bribe from Suspected Cattle Rustlers in Plateau State

In a commendable display of integrity, Nigerian Army officers stationed in Plateau State rejected a substantial bribe of N1.5 million offered by suspected cattle rustlers.

This principled stance was recognized and rewarded by the Nigerian Army, underscoring its commitment to upholding values of honesty and professionalism among its ranks.

The Nigerian Army has lauded the exemplary integrity of eight personnel from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) for their principled stance in declining a N1.5 million bribe offered by alleged cattle rustlers in Plateau State.

According to Capt. Oya James, the spokesperson for the Military Special Task Force overseeing peacekeeping efforts in the region, the officers, deployed at OPSH Sector 4, intercepted 30 rustled cows at the Bisichi checkpoint in Barkin Ladi local government area.

The cattle, reportedly stolen from Mangu, were being transported to an undisclosed destination when the vigilant troops halted them during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Despite attempts by the suspects, Anas Usman, 20 years old, and Gyang Cholly, 42 years old, to bribe the officers, their illicit offer was rebuffed, leading to their apprehension along with the bribe money.

Maj. Gen. Abubakar, the commander of Operation Safe Haven, commended the officers’ unwavering commitment to upholding ethical standards and presented them with well-deserved cash rewards.

Brig. Gen. M.O. Agi, representing Maj. Gen. Abubakar, urged other security personnel to emulate the exemplary conduct of the honored personnel and continue to uphold professionalism and bravery in the discharge of their duties.

In separate operations, troops of the Nigerian Army executed successful rescue missions, liberating ten passengers kidnapped while traveling from Calabar to Abuja in Kogi State.

Additionally, operations were conducted to neutralize threats posed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Anambra State and repel an attack by the Bassa militia group in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens through continuous operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the nation.
