Jigawa State – May 9, 2025 — In a major political development ahead of the next electoral cycle, the Minority Leader of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Yahaya Zakari Kwarko, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Kwarko, who was received formally into the APC by Governor Umar Namadi during a brief ceremony held at the Government House in Dutse.

The defection is seen as a significant gain for the ruling APC in Jigawa, especially as realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party supporters and political stakeholders from both camps were present at the reception.
