Police PRO: N100m Sent to IGP’s Son Was an Error, Money Returned to Anambra Govt

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that the N100 million paid into the personal bank account of Victor Egbetokun, son of the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was transferred in error and has since been refunded.

The clarification follows an online report alleging that the money was moved from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account into Victor Egbetokun’s account.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the transaction was immediately detected and reversed.

According to him, the IGP’s son noticed the unexpected credit alert and promptly contacted his account officer to reverse the funds.

“He said he saw N100 million in his account and instructed his account officer to return the money immediately, which was done,” Hundeyin explained.

He added that Victor printed his bank statement as evidence and subsequently closed the account. Hundeyin further disclosed that he has also petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), requesting a thorough investigation into the allegation.

The police spokesperson maintained that the incident was a mistaken transfer and confirmed that the funds were returned to the Anambra State Government’s account shortly after the error was discovered.
