Top Izala Leader Dalhatu Abubakar Kantana Dumps APC, Declares Political Neutrality
“I Now Belong to Everybody” — National Vice Chairman of Izala’s Ulama Council Resigns from Politics for Religious Leadership

In a move stirring political conversations across Bauchi State and beyond, Dalhatu Abubakar Kantana, a prominent political figure and religious leader, has officially announced his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his recent elevation to a senior religious leadership position.
In a letter dated May 1st, 2025, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Dull Ward, Bula District, Kantana declared that he was stepping away from all political affiliations following his appointment as the National Vice Chairman of the Ulama Council under Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) — a major Islamic organization with its national headquarters in Jos.
“I am now a patron to every Nigerian. I don’t have any specific political party I belong to. I belong to everybody as far as leadership is concerned,” he stated.
Kantana’s resignation is seen as a symbolic shift from partisan politics to religious service, reinforcing the influence of clerical institutions in shaping socio-political discourse in Northern Nigeria.
Political analysts view this move as a significant development that may alter political dynamics in Tafawa Balewa Local Government and perhaps signal a broader realignment ahead of future elections.
Dalhatu Abubakar Kantana was known for his grassroots political engagement and influence, particularly within the APC in Bauchi State. His departure may leave a strategic gap in the local party structure.
More reactions are expected in the coming days from both political stakeholders and religious communities.
