Yobe Assembly Investigates Hospital Staff Misconduct, Lack of Doctors

The Yobe State House of Assembly has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct among health workers and a severe shortage of doctors in government hospitals across Yobe State.
Speaker Chiroma Mashio announced the decision following the assembly’s resumption from its annual recess, citing growing concerns that staff behaviour and manpower shortages could weaken the state’s healthcare system.
He disclosed that the investigative committee will be chaired by Deputy Speaker Ya’u Dachia. Other members include Ahmed Dumbol, Kachalla Maina, Sanda Bade, Saminu Lawan, and Mohammed Ali.
Mashio noted that despite progress recorded in the health sector under Governor Mai Mala Buni, the allegations require thorough legislative scrutiny.
In a related development, the assembly gave accelerated consideration to a bill seeking to establish a state Senior Secondary Education Board. The executive-sponsored bill passed second reading and was referred to the House Standing Committee on Basic and Secondary Education for further legislative action.
Lawmakers also received two executive bills proposing the establishment of an Urban and Regional Planning Authority.
