IGP Vows to Reclaim Kwara Communities from Bandits

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has pledged that security agencies will reclaim communities in Kwara State from banditry and strengthen public safety. The declaration was made on Monday during his visit to the state, where he met with security officials, community leaders, and residents to review ongoing operations against criminal gangs.

Addressing stakeholders at the state police command, Disu explained that his visit aimed to discuss security challenges and reinforce cooperation between law enforcement and local communities.

“I want you to know why I am here. I am here to discuss all the issues related to the problem of security in Kwara State,” he said, adding that he was already familiar with the state’s security situation, having previously coordinated operations to flush out criminals from forest hideouts.

The IGP commended residents for supporting security agencies and urged continued collaboration to defeat criminal elements.

“These bandits cannot push us out of our own town. We are the owners of this town, and we will not allow that to happen. We have to take back our own. We have to take back our communities,” he declared.

Disu also noted his appreciation for the support provided by the state government, describing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq as “wonderful” for supplying security agencies with resources to strengthen policing efforts.

“I have visited the governor and thanked him because he has provided a lot of support to assist the police in doing their job,” he said.

During his visit, the IGP toured various locations within the state to meet deployed officers, boost their morale, and assess operational needs. He also consulted with the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, to identify additional resources required for ongoing operations, promising to take these needs back to Abuja to ensure adequate support.

“I told myself that Kwara will be the first place I will visit after becoming the IGP, and I am happy that it was theid.

In his remarks, Commissioner Ojo described the visit as a major morale booster for officers and an opportunity to assess security challenges on the ground, ensuring the successful conclusion of ongoing operations against banditry.
